19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.
Success also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.
His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
Both players traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.
Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
