“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally clarified that the signal was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”
