Powerful winter gusts brought walls down upon fragile tents housing Palestinians uprooted by war in Gaza, killing at least four people. This tragedy underscores the perilous living conditions that persist after more than two years of devastating bombardment and severe lack of humanitarian assistance.

Truce Provides No Relief from Harsh Elements

While a truce has been in effect since October, humanitarian organizations report that residents do not have the adequate housing necessary to withstand frequent winter storms.

Officials at Shifa hospital, which took in the victims, reported on Tuesday that the dead were a pair of adult females, a young female, and a man.

Separately, the Gaza health ministry stated on the same day that a 12-month-old infant succumbed of hypothermia during the night.

"International actors has enabled us to experience loss of life in every possible way," stated a family member after the burial. "While it is correct the shelling may have paused for now, but we have witnessed all imaginable reasons of death in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Family Crushed in Tent Collapse

According to the medical center, three people of a one household — 72-year-old a man, his 15-year-old granddaughter, and his son's wife — were fatally injured when an eight-metre tall wall collapsed onto their dwelling in a coastal area of Gaza City. At least five others were injured in the incident.

Their relatives on that day began clearing the rubble that had entombed their family and rebuilding the temporary homes for survivors.

Humanitarian Efforts and Ongoing Emergency

The UN and its aid organization allies were distributing tents, tarps, warm covers and clothes as well as food and sanitation supplies across Gaza, stated the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs.

"While 'explosions and gunfire have slowed' during the ceasefire, they have not stopped," the spokesperson told reporters at a press conference in the Swiss city by video link from the Strip. "Therefore what the international community now terms calm would be considered a crisis anywhere else," he concluded.

Third Cold Season of Struggle

Gaza’s residents of over two million individuals has been struggling to keep the cold weather and storms away while enduring lack of assistance and a absence of more substantial temporary housing, which is badly needed during the colder season.
