LBJ's Legendary Scoring Streak Ends, But Lakers Claim Victory Over Raptors.

James understood his historic streak of putting up 10+ points was threatened. In that crucial moment, however, he wasn't bothered.

The correct basketball play meant distributing the rock – so he did. Consequently, the legendary streak finished.

James's astounding run of 1,297 consecutive regular-season outings scoring at least ten was snapped on Thursday night, as the NBA's all-time scoring leader finished with eight total points in the Lakers' close win against the Toronto Raptors. He delivered the clutch helper, feeding Rui Hachimura for a three-pointer as time expired.

“Zero,” James replied after being questioned regarding the conclusion of his run. “The team got the victory.”

A Selfless Choice Secures the Win

LeBron had the chance to sought to clinch the game – and preserved the streak – in the closing seconds, but he chose to dish the ball to his teammate on the wing. Hachimura sank it, with LeBron exulted immediately.

You have to play basketball the right way. Always make the correct play,” James remarked. That has always been my philosophy. That’s how I was taught to play. That's what I've done my whole career.”

“LeBron is fully cognizant of how many points he has at all times,” said the team's head coach JJ Redick. He acted as he has done countless times.”

The Run's End Game

LeBron checked back into the floor for the final time at under five and a half minutes to go, the win and his personal record up for grabs. His tally was six points on 3-of-15 shooting by that point.

He managed a basket with 1:46 left to level the contest and missed a 14-footer with 1:01 left that would have taken him to double digits.

He passed up one more attempt – though the opportunity was there. Austin Reaves found him in the waning seconds, however, James decided to make the pass instead.

The spirits of the game, if you do it correctly, they often repay you,” Redick stated.

Reflecting on a Staggering Record

This incredible run started on Jan. 6, 2007. It was easily the longest such streak the league has ever seen: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem recorded 787, and Karl Malone was fourth on the list at 575.

“He’s such a pass-first superstar,” remarked Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He focuses on playing the game of basketball. He had the opportunity but given his nature as a player and his personality as a person, he executed the pass, dished to Hachimura and claimed the victory.”

Scoring in double figures had typically been a guarantee well before the final period. Throughout his run, he had attained double figures entering the fourth over twelve hundred times coming into the contest.

Yet two of those unusual single-digit games through three quarters had occurred recently: He had nine points entering the final quarter against Dallas on 28 November, and then had six points before the fourth quarter versus the Suns on Monday night.

James managed to keep the streak alive against the Suns. The very next outing, it was over – but he still rejoiced all the same.

“I always just make the best play. That is instinctive, no matter what,” James affirmed. “You make the smart play, the basketball gods consistently returning the favor.”
