New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
