Outrage as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old media personality was approached by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The reason of the incident remains unclear and no arrests are in custody, according to authorities.
The Fatal Incident
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises near the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.
Surveillance tape showed a individual with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
Key evidence, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to determine their destination," stated a police chief.
