Seamer Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Worries.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The series decider of the series in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he came back for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
