The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
