The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
