This Dramatic Portrait
In the struggle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. The actor plays the venal Jim, who proclaims initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about monetising the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain manages to depict the character as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, 1.15am, Film4
